Statement of Academic Purpose

   It has been my sole desire to continue the studying in music composition. Being brought up in a family who possess a deep appreciation for music had influence my child hood greatly. As a little child, music was an ultimate outlet for my imagination. Through music, I could express just about anything. Even though I didn¡¯t know how to play piano properly, I would indulge in tapping on clavier just based on how I felt or how I see things. Music has always been the most passionate part of my life as long as I can remember. 

   When I turn five, my grand mother, who has seen me playing the piano ever so creatively, suggested that I take piano lessons. On the days that I have a piano lesson, my heart would be filled with a vigorous spirit, even hours before the appointed time. As the appointed time was getting closer to me, my heart would be overwhelmed with joys, kind of like the well-known tale of ¡°Le Petit Prince¡± by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

   As I grew older, I was interested in variety of instrument and was astonished by the harmonized melody of the different sorts of instrument. Especially, I was attracted by the splendid sound of orchestra when they put their musical tunes together. Being impressed by the grand harmony, I started to participate in a lot of musical related activities such as city youth orchestra, annual concerts, and more.

   By the time when I enter high school, I had played just about every masterpiece of famous composers. I must say that they have been the most inspirational part of my life. However, they were getting some what jaded. So I start editing classical music by duplicating and compiling with other genre of music. This has put a whole new spice into my musical life. A gospel song that I edited to a classical version was even chosen to play during the New Year¡¯s concert by the conductor of the orchestra.

    Realizing this sudden talent in me, I chose composition as my major as I continue on with my education into a college. There, I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to learn composition professionally from a very fine staff of professors. Upon my senior year in college, I was awarded and my composition was chosen as the winning piece of work at the prestigious nation wide competition sponsored by Jungang Ilbo. In 1998, I graduated from 0000000 University with an upswing GPA and went on to graduate school.

    If I am granted a very fortunate opportunity, I would like to pursue my long-cherished vision. As many of the out standing pieces of music from the past have inspired me and gave me a thrilling sensation, I would like to do the same for upcoming generation of this world. I am aware that in order to accomplish that certain goal, I would have to put forth my best effort.
