There are two key
reasons for making my career decision over the past twenty-three years
of my life. To begin with, I first encountered computer when I was four
years old and have been constantly interested in learning them. Given my
direct family line practices Christianity and my uncle is a church
minister, it was natural for all of my family members to become
concerned about community support services. My interests in these two
areas led me to consider the possibility of making use of computer-aided
technology to community support services.
When I was attending high school I joined RCY club and got
actively involved in such club activities as helping impaired children
at Aemang-Won, a orphanage for crippled children. My first Aemang-Won
experience was extremely shocking in the respect there were so many
underprivileged children, those who were born seriously crippled. While
I was rendering support services to the disadvantaged children at the
care facility I realized that I need to show appreciation for all the
good in my life, such as being brought up in a normal two-parent family,
being born perfectly normal and healthy, and almost everything in which
I am blessed. In order to make the disadvantaged people's lives more
convenient I came up with an idea of making use of computer-aided
technologies, but being a high school student I lacked the requisite
knowledge and skills to develop and deliver marketable, creative
programs to realize my goal desire my strong desire to show my potential
competence in computer skills.
Secondly, while I was preparing for the test of Information
qualification when I was serving the armed forces I realized the endless
potential and possibility possessed by computer. Moreover, net surfing
enabled me to become aware that the world is changing rapidly and
becoming essentially a "global village". Considering the rapid
rate at which computer science advances I believe that there is an
enormous potential in applying computer technologies to change people's
lives in a positive way, by taking the advantage of the current trend in
the use of internet technologies. Seeing the big picture, I intend to
take a broad perspective of balancing his or her benefits with those of
others. In order to realize my dream I believe that I need to learn
computers in more depth and more systematic manner.
After I was discharged from the army I made the decision to
study the subject of computer science in the U.S. which is noted for
having established computing science field. I wish to provide my input
to the development of the field after having learned the subject in more
detailed and systematic manner, thus I could help people have more
convenient lives and perhaps raise their standard of living as well. I
believe that your university's computer science program is ideal for
meeting my goal of becoming a computer science professional.
I am sure that I am going to confront many obstacles to
realizing my dream and there would be many circumstances in which I
would become confused or hesitate to take the initiative as any average
person would. However, as long as I have a strong intention and am
prepared to put my best efforts to overcome the obstacles I am confident
I would be just fine and attain my goal eventually. To reiterate, I have
no doubt to believe that I posses the competence and I am determined to
satisfy the program requirements. I hope your university would provide a
scaffold for me to make the best use of my full capability. Having the
confidence over my expectation for the unlimited possibilities possessed
by computers, my positive attitude toward life, and my specific career
goal I am sure my life in the U.S. is going to be successful. Thank you
for taking time to read my statement and I hope to hear from you in near
future.
