I became fascinated with communication since high school when I had the opportunity to encounter with the Internet and the mobile phone for the first time in my life. Deeply attracted to the Internet's remarkable ability to allow net users to easily access global information and the amazing convenience that mobile phone gave, I came to the conclusion that studying communication technology and making contribution to people¡¯s life would be worthwhile one can do in his life. This is my primary reason for pursuing studies in the area of communication technology.

I can confidently state that I have diligently worked throughout my four long years at the university. I was able to maintain outstanding academic performance in all of my major-related courses that qualified me to win the scholarship awards offered by the university; I was very excited to broaden my knowledge that would be valuably used in my future works. And taking the advice of my professors that the acquisition of a general knowledge across a wide variety of disciplines is more helpful for my future studies rather than concentrating on only one subject, I have tried to take as various electrical engineering-related courses as possible.

During my undergraduate studies at the university, the subjects I enjoyed most were Mathematics and the Theory of Communication. Believing that mathematics serves as one type of basic language in the field of engineering and thus the strong mathematical background is critical for better understanding of engineering, I took all of the mathematics courses offered by the School of Engineering. My solid mathematical background knowledge has greatly helped me study those courses in my area of concentration in effective manner. Indeed, I could easily grasp the parts or problems dealing with rigorous mathematical thinking which my peers had some difficulty in understanding.
During my four years of undergraduate studies I have come across many other students struggling with mathematics and thus, organized 'Engineering Mathematics Study Association' and taught them most of the subjects related to engineering mathematics.

And as already mentioned, the theory of communication is another area which I have shown much interest from the beginning. I was able to gain considerable advantage by taking the course that I was able to develop solid working knowledge of communication-related theories and their development process. These subjects have inspired me to pursue further studies about the topic of the "Next-Generation Communication Technologies".

My primary academic goal is more than developing some of the communication system elements. I ultimately aim to formulate and to develop the theories needed for the communication from the perspective of an entire system level. I dream of paving the new way for a direct route of communication, rather than merely developing higher-speed transportations to get people to the already developed yet roundabout route.

I believe that my research efforts would open up new opportunities for communication technologies, and serve as a catalyst for the development of other engineering-related fields. The attainment of this goal involves more than sitting in a classroom and studying for a degree. I need to provide substantial research input on today's key communication technologies and to devise new, creative, and possibly breakthrough ideas. I will also pursue further studies in mathematics because more advanced mathematical knowledge would be of great asset for me to devise creative ideas in communication, microwave and circuit techniques which are crucial for the implementation of communication systems.

I am currently in my second last semester before graduation and thus, do not have my own research projects to show you. However, while I was taking courses I performed a wide variety of projects and experiments, which could be used to prove my research potential. I especially had two opportunities to make poster presentations about communications. For my first presentation, I designed "Phase Lock Loop" circuit and explained to my audience how it works. And my second presentation dealt with my survey of "Channel Coding" technique and the simple encoding/decoding system that I designed. I also performed other projects concerning the development of programs, which simulate the process of signals in the communication systems. And, finally I plan to write a paper about my core research interest, the "Next-Generation Communication Technologies" starting from next January, and to take two communication-related courses offered by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the Graduate School of Yonsei University in my final semester before graduation. I am confident that my accumulated knowledge and expertise in communication technology combined with my mathematical knowledge base would be of great help for my graduate studies and future research activities.

My primary reason for pursuing further studies in the communication technology is to gain the broadest and the deepest knowledge as possible. My ultimate academic plan is to obtain a doctorate in this area as I wish to prepare my career in communication technology leadership. I am seeking admission to your university having the strong foundation of the national accreditation for teaching excellence in the area of Electrical Engineering because it is the ideal place for me to take advantage of your career development resources, as well as to gain the necessary knowledge and expertise from the available pool of the qualified professors. Your university would make me a perfect match as I would be given many opportunities to put my intellectual ideas and interests into academic reality. If I am admitted to your university I will be pleased to actively participate and contribute my energy and insight for my future research projects and academic studies, and to share my accumulated knowledge and expertise in the areas of mathematics as well as communication technology. I am sure that my academic knowledge and experience would eventually contribute to your university. I dare to say that I will certainly be beneficial to your university. I would like to thank you for taking your time to read my application. If you have any questions regarding my application please do not hesitate to contact me. I will look forward to meeting you in near future.
